Contaminated water management
We are creating multi-layered countermeasures based on the following 3 basic principles pertaining to countermeasures for contaminated water at Fukushima Daiichi NPS
- “Remove” contamination source
- “Isolate” water from contamination
- “Prevent leakage” of contaminated water
As we move forward with preventive and multi-layered contaminated water countermeasures based on the principles described above we can expect results, but they require confirmation and verification to be used, and the following technical verifications were conducted.
<Equipment servicing verification (Countermeasures to Manage Contaminated Water)>
- Large-scale verification of impermeable walls (“Ice Wall”) [Prevent leakage]
- High-performance Advanced Liquid Processing System (High-performance ALPS) equipment verification [Remove]
<Technology verification (Countermeasures for Decommissioning and Contaminated Water Treatment)>
- Tritium separation [Remove]
- Seawater purification [Remove]
- Collection of radioactive materials from soil [Remove]
- Tank decontamination [Prevent leakage]
- Unmanned boring technology [Other]
